The World of the End (Part 4)
John’s visions turn more violent as the seven trumpets are blown, calling down more destruction upon the earth and calling up unimaginable beasts. The dragon calls a seven-headed beast out of the sea, and another beast out of the earth. Far from predicting the eventual arrival of an “antichrist,” John uses these ferocious figures to depict the political realities of the Roman Empire in the first century, political realities that are still familiar to us today.
