The songs that we sing in worship do more than almost anything else to shape how we think about, speak of, and act on our faith. This series will take a close look at six of the hymns that are sung most frequently in worship at the church on the corner. We will dive into the rich poetry, uncover resonances of the biblical story, and enrich our understanding of the songs of our faith.

This hymn praises God's holiness, but we rarely stop and think about what "holiness" even is. God commands us to be holy, as God is holy. Holiness is so much more than individual morality or righteousness, and far from leading to separation from the world, true holiness leads us into deeper engagement with the world.

We are surrounded by borders in our lives: geographical borders that separate towns, states, and countries from one another, and more intangible borders based on ideology, allegiance, economic status, etc. Peter discovers for himself that in Christ these borders have no meaning, and that the good news compels him to welcome those he would never have imagined.
